There’s no denying that stress and entrepreneurship go hand in hand, but a few small lifestyle additions could help reduce your anxiety. Personal life coach and professional image consultant, Sandra Adams, shares three tips for managing your stress levels as a business owner.
1. Focused breathing
When we are stressed we tend to breathe very shallowly or hold our breath. Calm yourself by focusing on your breathing: take a deep breath in through your nose and hold for four counts. Then exhale through your nose or mouth to the count of six. Focus on your exhalation so you release all the stale air in your body. Repeat three times. This exercise can be done quickly and discreetly before a presentation or meeting a new client.
2. Practice self-appreciation
Before you start work each day, jot down three things in your diary about yourself or your life that you really appreciate. As an entrepreneur you are your business, so showing yourself appreciation is a very important thing to do and can help you feel grounded. Plus the more you appreciate yourself, the more you appreciate your clients.
3. Get moving
You’ve heard it before, but exercise really is good for both the body and the mind! Exercise encourages the release of serotonin which can help you feel happier, less stressed and better about yourself. It doesn’t have to be a long workout; a quick 20- to 30-minute session three to four times week will do. If lifting weights at the gym is not your cup of tea, try incorporating some yoga or nature walks into your weekly routine.
